Ezekiel the prophet had the unenviable task of speaking for a God who, by all appearances, had abandoned his people. His commission was to rebuild the people’s trust in God, as well as the priestly and prophetic religious institutions based on a covenant that lay in ashes. The purpose of this was nothing more or less audacious than to restore everything that had been lost.
